Welcome Into the Sea!

This four-hour lesson is to provide the individual paddler with knowledge and skills to become an asset to a paddling group. Each week will have a skill set of some sort but will vary on conditions and abilities of the entire group. Paddlers enrolled in this course are comfortable on flat water and becoming proficient with the performance of body boat blade. If you have ventured out onto the sea and are looking for a great place to practice your skills, look no further as Into the Sea will enhance any paddlers skill level.

  • Week one: Towed rescues and other towing techniques, theory and practice different T-rescues and recoveries.
  • Week two: Winter paddling, cold challenge prevention, injured paddler rescues, becoming an asset to a paddling group, and ranges to help you in every day paddling
  • Week three: 6 nautical mile tour, with problems.
  • Week four: Launching and Landings off different ocean locations, strokes at sea, and how the sea affects your kayak.
  • Week five: Bracing and rolling at sea.

Each week we will meet at a designated venue depending upon conditions. $100/person/session or $400 for prepayment for all 5 weeks.

Gear list:

  • Kayak with proper flotation
  • PFD with at a minimum of a whistle, knife and power snack.
  • Paddle, spare paddle if you have one.
  • Spraydeck for closed decked kayaks and thigh braces for all sit on top kayaks.
  • Clothing for continuous immersion in 50' F water.
  • Water and a snack
  • Spare clothing in a dry bag to include a warm hat, and warm tops and bottoms.
  • Boots, shoes or something that will stay on your feet during a swim.
  • Helmets that fit properly!
  • Tow system (optional but should be on your gear list)
  • VHF radio (optional but good to have per person)
  • Any other items that you feel necessary to bring.
