Sea Kayak Levels of Instruction

Sea Kayak skills come in many forms. Look to LFKC to help get you up to speed, where ever that may be. Sea Kayaking has many avenues to explore. The Inuit’s have been using sea kayaks for many years to hunt and gather sustenance for survival. Today a large number of kayakers are taking to the sea for fishing and others for pure entertainment. We at Liquid Fusion Kayak Co are interested in getting you started the right ways and running with intermediate skills levels and up.

Here is simple flow chart to take you where you want to go! Have fun exploring and do it well.

SK Level 1: "Into A Kayak"

Lessons in: Introductions to design, fit, and function of equipment, explanation of clothing and the many uses, basic strokes to maneuver a kayak on flat water, self-rescue, and equipment care.

Pre-requisites: Have heard of a kayak but do not have any knowledge.

This lesson is taught in three hours at $60. Private lesson are available at $150 per person

SK Level 2: "Flat Water Perfection"

Lessons in: Edge control, brace and recovery strokes, strokes for propulsion and maneuvering, sideways movement (draws), deep water solo and buddy recoveries, basic navigation, and route planning.

Pre-requisites: Have an understanding of how to fit a kayak and equipment, have completed a self-rescue, and recognize a few strokes for propulsion and maneuvering.

This lesson is taught in three hours at $75 per person. Private lessons are available at $150 per person

SK Level 3:

Lessons in: Deep water recoveries to include: paddle float recovery with and without a stirrup, T-recovery with a buddy and theory of other options of recoveries.

Pre-requisites: Can perform all SK Level 2 strokes on flat water,

note: An Eskimo roll will be demonstrated but is taught in a private lesson.

SK Level 4: "Into the Sea"

Lessons in: Open ocean kayaking

Pre-requisites: Participants can perform basic propulsion and maneuvering strokes, have performed a self-rescue and are interested in open ocean kayak skills.
