The 2007 Kern River Festival

Location: Riverside Park in Kernville, California

Year first held:   1963  This is the 44th year for the Kern River Whitewater Races.

Schedule: (preliminary)

Saturday, 4/21 - Wildwater race, Raft Races, Slalom practice, Brush Creek Race (pending FS permit approval), Poker Run.

Sunday, 4/22 - Western Regionals Slalom, T.J. Citizen Slalom race.

Events:

Events include the Wildwater races, Raft races, Brush Creek Race (pending FS permit approval), Powerhouse Poker Run, and the TJ Classic Slalom race.  The Slalom, and Wildwater events are being held at Riverside Park in mid-town Kernville. The raft races will take place upstream of the bridge in Kernville, above the Park.  The Poker Run will be on the Powerhouse (Lickety-Split) Run. All events have easy access for boaters and spectators.

This is the fifth year the raft races have been part of the Kern Festival. Last year everyone that participated had a great time, and there were many close races in the head-to-head heats.  With your support and participation, we hope to continue to make the raft races a challenging and exciting part of the Kern River Festival.

 Everyone is invited to come to the Festival and be a part of this long-running whitewater tradition! All events except the Raft Races have classes from novice to expert. Hyside is providing rafts, so you don’t need to own a raft to participate in the Raft Races. (You do need a PFD and appropriate clothing.) There is no charge to view any of the events.

Sponsor and vendor booths will be setup in Riverside Park throughout the event. Come check out all the latest boats, paddling and outdoor gear! A party will be held on Saturday night at Oddfellows Hall. A tasty Mexican dinner will be available.  All boaters, spectators and anyone else who would like to attend are welcome. Tickets for the dinner will be available at Registration and at the door. The Festival Raffle will be Sunday afternoon.

Sierra Cup Slalom Series

The Kern Festival TJ Slalom is the first event of the Sierra Cup Slalom Series.
