River Kayak Introduction

 

 

 

 

River Kayak Full Immersion

This lesson is designed for those outdoors enthusiasts that want to get started the proper way of river kayaking. While getting fully immersed in river kayaking you will learn to read the river, river kayak safety, river hydrology, river rescue and much more.

Who: If you have the working knowledge of forward and reverse strokes, forward and reverse sweep strokes and the need for fun then whitewater is for you.

Level 1:  New to kayaking and needs basic instruction on kayaks, gear, basic strokes.

Level 2:  Has knowledge to set up own boat, gear and self.  Can perform basic skills such as forward and reverse strokes, bracing, and wet exits.

Level 3:  Is moving to an intermediate level.  Can comfortably do basic skills on flat to moderate water.  Can self rescue, eskimo assist and solid attempts at eskimo rolling.  Has experianced class II water and can navigate in it.

Level 4:  Able to perform turns in and out of an eddy, ferry side to side, comfortable eskimo rolling in current and can self rescue.  Has been exsposed to Class III water and basic river play.

Level 5:  Let's go whitewater river kayaking.  Participants are ready and willing to run whitewater rivers with a guide to class III and possibly class IV 

What: River kayak lesson using decked river kayaks

When: While the snow melts and the rivers flow (May - August)

Where: The closest river to San Diego is the Kern River. LFKC will use this river primarily but be ready to head north and play on other rivers such as the Kings, Cal-Salmon, Russian, Eel and the American.

How: Once you have learned the basic strokes or are a seasoned kayaker of other kayak disciplines, come on out and enjoy the fun.

How much: Each Lesson is six hours on the water per day unless otherwise stated.

A. 1 day Kayaking Basics $150 per person.

B. 2 day river refresher $250 per person.

C. 3.5 day full immersion $395 per person.

D. 1 Day river surfing and play boating $175 per person.

E. 3 day intermediate immersion $330 per person
